design flaw

makita needs to re-design this tool.
We just bought two of them, and are very disapointed in the design.
the guide that moves up and down to set the blade, has only one side of the fence with gears, the other side is loose, when setting the height,you need to have a tape measure to keep the fence from setting the blade at an angle.
Once more people buy this tool and discover what we did, We are sure they will re-design this poorly designed fence.
So at this time, I would suggest not buying it.

Makita Cordless Plate Joiner

Since I have Makita's batteries and charger already I thought I would try this 18v Plate Joiner. I have used Makita's AC version and it's predecessor for a long time but now enjoy the freedom of not having to be near an outlet. I was eager to put it to the test with a variety of different woods and was impressed with power and the long run time. The rack and pinion vertical fence adjustment is smooth and accurate, the same fence design as with their AC version. Not sure what the previous reviewer was unhappy about with the accuracy but it has been dead on for me. This was a good choice for me and adds to my family of tools from Makita that are run with one battery and one charger. With a three year warranty it shows confidence that the tool will last. I will be buying more models as needed. For sure it earns a five star rating.

Batteries

I, too, ordered it because I already have two of the earlier version of 18V battery with charger...now I get
the tool and try to put in my battery and, oh yeah, it won't fit (supposedly I could jury-rig the older ones with some creative material removal but then only have 1/2 battery power). So, I order two new ones(ouch!) only to find that they only ship to Hawaii via ocean/ship/parcel post (supposedly if it had been in the tool it might have shipped ok); so, now I have to wait 5-6 weeks. I never would have ordered the tool if I'd known all this, and, now, it just sits while I try to make my old cutters do the job. By the time the batteries get here, I'll be done with the job. I order a LOT on Amazon, but this one hurts!!!
How does the tool actually work?? Beats me!!!
