So far, so good
By zog
Just purchased the Genesis cordless oscillating tool, and while I haven't put it to a serious test yet, I wanted to provide some early feedback. Clearly, this little tool isn't to the level of a Fein or Bosch, but for a lot less money, it appears to be a strong contender. I haven't found much on the internet about Genesis tools; they appear to be relatively new so reviews are scarce. The Genesis Tools website shows that they are made by a company called Richpower. I only found a few other Genesis tools and they include a table saw, auto-hammer, and cordless drill. The drill appears to be hobbyist at best but the others show some promise, such as the oscillating tool.
The Genesis GLMT12 comes with a small tool kit, 12V battery, charger, and instruction manual. Straight out of the box, the lithium battery is already charged, which is a nice surprise. The packaging of the tool, while adequate, is minimal, so don't expect a sturdy plastic case at this price. It's packed in a small cardboard box and each individual item is wrapped in plastic. Inside the tool kit is a drywall blade, scraper blade, wood cutting blade, sanding pad, sanding discs, adapter plate (for Fein, Bosch, Dremel and Rockwell, which I think is a nice touch for a low priced tool) and an allen wrench.
The Genesis tool itself is shaped and balanced quite well. Ergonomics and weight seem to be just right so far (many power tools cause serious fatigue after short periods of use so weight should always be a consideration). One concern I have is with the power switch. Right out of the box, the switch was sloppy and loose - there is not a strong defined "off" position. The switch is so loose that it can be pushed into a "middle" position without activating the tool. However, once the tool is powered on, the switch stays relatively tight and doesn't move much. I would also like to see a safety on the switch - it's easy to turn on accidentally. Pushing down and then up on the switch would be an easy safety addition. When the tool is powered up, it seems to have a good amount of power. While it doesn't have a variable speed, it seems to have enough horsepower to cut, sand, or scrape on whatever your project may be. Installing the attachments is also relatively easy - remove the allen screw, line up the attachment holes on the mounting pins, and tighten the screw.
The battery charger also seems more expensive than you would expect for a tool of this price. Indicator lights show when the battery is charging and complete. The battery fits in the slot very tightly, almost too tightly, but I expect this to loosen up.
With any new(ish) tool or tool manufacturer, parts and accessories sometimes are difficult to find. Shouldn't be an issue with the Genesis. Amazon carries the attachments and I've also seen them in hardware stores. Also, with the adapter plate, there is an unlimited amount of attachments for the Genesis.
So far, the tool seems adequate and appears to be assembled well. I'll add more information as I use it more.
Pros: Ergomomics, weight, power, decent instruction manual (with toll-free support)
Cons: Sloppy power switch, no safety, minimal cardboard packaging, very tight battery slot

Double fail
By L. Madrid
I was a bit skeptical about this tool because of the cheap price, but with the great reviews on here I thought I'd give it a try. I don't need a heavy duty oscillating tool, or one that will last forever, so I thought this might do the trick and save me some money too.
Unfortunately, after receiving two defective units I think I'll need to invest in a higher quality tool.
The first unit turned on right out of the box, and seemed fine so I set it aside to start using it the next day. When I went to use it, however, it wouldn't turn on at all (despite a fully charged battery). So, I returned it for a replacement.
The second unit worked, but a few minutes into my job (removing old grout) it shut itself off and wouldn't stay on for more than a second or two at a time. The head of the tool seemed a bit warm, so I thought maybe it was overheating and put it aside to try again later. I was already considering returning the unit, because if I can't use it for more than a few minutes at a time then it really wouldn't work for my purposes. The next day, I tried to use the tool again but the unit kept turning itself off after anywhere from 5-30 seconds (without even being warm) and sometimes I had some problems getting it even turn on again. So, back it goes.
Bottom line: After two failed tools, I'm going to have to try another brand. As cheap as it is, it's not a good deal.
