Bosch gets it. Design, Function and Value all together
By apollinaire
Home owners should not be without one of these well designed, sturdy and multifuncional gems.
As someone who has repaired two older homes, I must simply say "buy this thing".
I bought a competing Rigid branded tool from my local big & orange store, which I returned immediately.
Features that gave me the urge to write a review:
It's a well designed tool, sturdy and with a good weight.
The quick change lever is wonderfully convenient.
The cord is nice and long. Not like the skimpy cords on other brands.
The tool has a speed setting on it's back end, which is nice for slow/detailed work.
It comes with enough blades and assorted sandpaper to keep you happy through a couple days of hard work.
All of the extra "accessories" come in a nice box of their own, with little compartments inside to keep everything organized and visible.
This unit does ship with a pretty buff carrying case. Yes it does say so in the product's title but Amazon fails to show an accurate image.
The case is made of hard plastic and has a proper handle, actual hinges and latches and a little hole for a lock if you wish.
The most important thing.... it currently costs less and has more attachments than the same model with fewer attachments. Go figure.
Here's a link for the pricier listing if you wish to see what the carrying case looks like.

Excellent oscillating tool, but could use one tweak
By Steve
This is a great tool, no question about it. The motor is smooth as silk and it has good "hand-feel" for lack of a better word. The only shortcoming, and it would only be useful in certain situations, is that it lacks a depth stop. I have only seen this available on a Porter Cable unit as I recall and thought "who needs that?" but the more I use the tool the more I wish I had one and will likely fashion something in the future. Don't be fooled by the depth gauge that is printed on some of the blades....no way in heck you can make out that gauge when the blade is shaking back and forth and sawdust is flying about. One additional comment....I was very wary of the unit when I first started using it based on the one review about an injured thumb and the blade release mechanism. I can only speak for my particular Bosch unit, but there is no spring mechanism or preload in that lever at all. Absolutely no way I could get injured on the unit I own.

Mighty Mite

I've always considered these tools to be silly little gimmicks with minimal practical application, but I suddenly found myself needing to scrape out a lot of tiny grout lines and they've gotten enough horsepower to them now that I've been forced to reconsider my opinions.
This is definitely a much more solid tool than the ancient Dremel version I played with many, many years ago (this is in no way intended to be a slam against any current Dremel offerings, which seem to have improved as well). It spins up softly so it doesn't jerk around and is really surprisingly aggressive. The sandpaper pads they supply load up pretty quickly when going over older latex paint, but they still shorten the job time so significantly that I can't be bothered to care. Drips in hard-to-reach corners will never be something you just have to live with again. As a cutter, it can easily take the place of an angle grinder or trim router in a fairly wide variety of home improvement situations, and since nothing large is spinning at tens of thousands of RPMs, it's much less likely to send a piece of wheel shrapnel through your skull or get caught in a piece of loose clothing to boot.
But all that power doesn't come for free; it's loud enough that you'll probably want some hearing protection for prolonged use. I've also noticed that the friction produced by running it on high with a sanding pad attached for a while can result in more than enough heat to melt the velcro hooks on the pad. Not the end of the world, but it's a pricier consumable than the sandpaper.
I wish it were a little bit smaller, but it's unlikely that they'll get a motor this strong into a lesser form factor anytime soon.
The release lever is quite resistant to movement and does not snap shut in any way, so I'm assuming that the guillotine problem described in the 1-star review has been addressed since it was posted.
