I learned the hard way
By psnorb
I purchased this after my license was stollen and used in a high speed chase and shoot out with the police. They knew my plates were stolen so I did not have any legal problems, but they kept my plate as evidence. What a pain. This won't stop a thief 100% of the time but all you have to do is make it harder for him to remove your plate than the plate on the car next to you.
Works great on my FORD EXPLORER. DOES NOT WORK ON MY GERMAN CAR.

Defective item
By Jeff Barbiaux
I did not purchase this item from Amazon, but I wanted the consumer to be aware of the quality of this item. I purchased this item after reading the package which stated the item had "anti-rust properties". After one year the item is very rusted. I do like the anti theft idea but it should have been manufactured with stainless steel.

Repeat buyer
By Gnet_lover
I never knew why someone would steal a license plate, that was until I received a not-so-nice interaction by an officer of my local police department asking me where I, along with my car was the night before. Apparently thieves steal the licence plate attach it to a already stolen car or put it on their car to commit robberies (or in my license plate's case a beer run) - either way the plate buys them time for as long as the unknowing owner of the plate doesn't report the plate stolen, if the color or make of car looks similar the only way to tell is if the vehicle identification number is checked, and to do that one would have to look at the dashboard and correctly read the 16-18 digit alphanumeric code to the police. I have purchased these fasteners for all three of my vehicles. The only downfall to these fasteners are they are fairly common, so if someone had the handle device that comes with them then you are out of luck. Just to make sure this would not happen I purchased Nylon locknuts 1/4" 20 thread to replace the standard nuts that come with the fasteners, this ensures that unless the would be theif has the tool, a wrench, and a way to the opposite side of the fastener, all that will happen is the bolt turns perpetually forever, never loosening...
