Join Fu-Tung Cheng in this step-by-step instructional guide for creating beautiful and functional concrete counter tops. Fu-Tung's 20-plus years as master designer and craftsman offer easy-to-follow proven methods for bringing your own concrete counter tops to life. Many aspects of the project require the use of a variable speed wet polisher. This particular kit is equipped with a Secco 110-Volt variable speed wet polisher. The Secco DVS supplied with this set confines both dust and water in a controlled environment. While polishing on site, the need to keep water spray from damaging expensive wooden floors and cabinets can be challenging. Concrete dust can also be difficult to clean and is dangerous to breathe. With the DVS, these damaging and toxic materials are contained and removed by simply hooking up a rated shop vac. To work with the shroud, simply attach the 6 inch DVS shroud to the wet polisher and attach your shop vac to the 1 1/4 inch vacuum port. After attaching your tooling, set the tool flat and adjust the removable apron to the proper position. The DVS system is compatible with all 4 and 5 inch diamond polishing pads, backer pads, and diamond cup wheels. If you plan to do any significant stock removal you will need the help of a diamond cup wheel. The diamond cup wheel included in this set is used for medium to heavy stock removal applications. The 5 inch concrete polishing pad set in this listing starts at 50-Grit and ends with 3000-Grit. The 50-Grit pad is the initial pad to be used for polishing but is useful for shaping edges and removing mold lines as well. The 100-Grit pad will follow and remove the rough 50-Grit scratch pattern, replacing it with a 100-Grit scratch pattern. This process is repeated throughout the-Grits until the desired luster or shine is achieved. Be sure to read your sealer's instructions as they all vary.

Good value
By JimInSLC
I've been polishing some DIY concrete countertops. This is the only wet polisher I've ever used, but I'd say it is doing a good job. A few things that could be considered room for improvement:
1. The water supply line is pretty short, after using it for an hour I went to Lowe's and bought 10 feet of Tygon tubing and that helped a lot.
2. The water supply valve goes from nothing to full blast in about 5 degrees of rotation. It is tolerable, but could be better.
3. It would be nice to have a grinding option that was between the grinding cup and the 50 grit pad. Both are supposedly 50 grit, but the cup is super aggressive and the pad takes a long time to remove material.
Those are all minor. Otherwise, this works as advertised. It is reasonably quiet and smooth.

Worth it for even a small DIY job
By Don S. Spaulding
I made a concrete fireplace hearth with this tool and I love the end result.
I'm a DIYer. Faced with the several hundred dollars it would cost to get a multi-piece limestone hearth cut and placed, I decided I would try my hand at making my own custom concrete hearth. I also needed a small section of countertop for a cabinet in my laundry room, so I decided to use it as an experiment to see if I would be able to pull of the hearth project.
I made the countertop in the laundry room by following Fu Tung Cheng's awesome instructional videos (available from free on his Concrete Exchange website) and without the aid of this tool. After several hours (and $30-50) using wet-or-dry sandpaper on an orbital buffer, it was finally ground down to the exposure I was looking for.
So for the actual hearth project, I decided this tool would be worth the expenditure. When the time came to grind down the hearth, I started it up and was amazed at how quickly it ground the surface down to exposed aggregate. I had started with the (very!) aggressive grinding cup, but quickly switched to the diamond pads and was able to move up to the 400 grit in very little time. I slurried the piece twice at the 400 grit level before working my way up through the rest of the pads. Very smooth result and this tool saved me several hours of doing it by hand.
The grinder:
- seems sturdy
- required very little pressure to grind away (at the lower grits)
- has plenty of hose/cord
The grinding cup:
- was very aggressive
The water containment shroud:
- was easily adjusted with the vinyl/velcro strap
- did a good job containing the water
- did NOT fit my Shop-Vac's hose
Regarding water containment, this is a wet job. The containment system can only hope to minimize the spray of the water, and this it does admirably (if you take the time to adjust the depth of the vinyl strap). However there's no way you're going to stay dry during this process. Also, keep in mind that any vertical or angled grinding you do is bound to leave you considerably wetter than horizontal grinding as the containment system is designed to operate on a large flat surface.
Regarding electrical safety: One of my big concerns with this unit was that people stated they felt small shocks when their hands got wet. I wore work gloves (like auto mechanic gloves) and a Tyvek suit to minimize the amount of water directly on my body, and I didn't get shocked once. I'm not sure if I was just more careful or if I got a "good unit" or what, but being prepared for it certainly didn't hurt.
Another thing that helped make the job a little easier was to suspend my water supply line and extension cord from the ceiling, so that I didn't have to keep dragging it around the table.
All in all I'm very impressed with the functionality of this product. I can't comment on its reliability since I only used it once. It definitely helped me do a better job faster, and that's exactly what a DIYer (or a professional) is looking for in a tool.

Works as expected, does a very good job
By Rain
I used it to polish some slate and rough stone around the pool. After polishing the rough stone, it looked like marble.
