I'm updating my review from earlier after using this for a year and a half or so. The tool is comfortable and the blower works well keeping the cutting area free of dust but there are a couple of issues for me which have become deal-breakers.
The motor is less powerful than the similar products from Bosch, Makita, etc. You will bog the saw down on thick or hard material. Granted, this saw is less expensive as well. If you regularly cut thicker or harder material (1"+) or want fast cuts you might want something more powerful.
Secondly, the blade is not aligned with the body (ie not straight). I originally thought maybe mine was a fluke, but I've seen the same comment in magazine jigsaw comparisons. This wasn't that annoying originally but has become more over time. This issue means you can't use a guide for straight cuts. In the end the two issues are annoying enough that I replaced this saw with a Bosch barrel grip.
Lastly, the "keyless" blade change doesn't drop the blade, you need to pull the blade out after releasing it. It is really convenient with hot blades to have them drop out instead of playing hot potato with them. Again, minor issue but it seems like it would have been pretty trivial to make it drop the blade like nearly every other modern jigsaw. Overall, I just recommend anyone try to use the various jigsaws before buying one.
Side note: the alignment I speak of is front to back, not "leaning". Making straight(ish) cuts by hand is not the issue, in fact quite the opposite. Making straight cuts with a guide is not possible. Apparently from other reviews this was not clear before.

I Like Jigsaws
By pdubbs330
I'm a week in and I've tackled two projects. So far, so good. I always do a bunch of research before buying anything and have landed on Porter-Cable tools twice in the last two months. This one and a circular saw. I feel like it's a better build quality than the Skils and the B&D's and you're not paying for all that brand that the Dewalt, Milwaukee, and Bosch stuff automatically comes with. Plus, I'm not a pro, so I don't need something top-of-the-line.
It's hard to rate because it's the first jigsaw I've ever owned or even used. But, it did exactly what I wanted it to do, right out of the box. What else can I ask for?
The first time I turned it on, it was on the lowest settings possible and the blade was moving up and down at about 55 RPM's: 1....2....3....4...5. At this point I questioned my purchase, but then I cranked it up to the max and sliced through the plywood and aspen boards I was cutting with ease.
I'd buy it again.
EDIT: Months in and around 10 or so projects later, the saw has gotten better (because I've gotten better at using it). It earns my five-star rating easily.

Don't expect to use a saw guide
By P. Barnett
I really liked this saw (my first jig saw) after purchasing it in November of 2011. It is well balanced and feels comfortable in my hand. I bought it mainly for cutting a hole in some plywood for a toilet drain, but had figured on using it off and on for years to come for various small jobs around the house. As I had planned on this being a long term investment, I wanted to step up in quality from the typical Black & Decker and Skil brand saws. Porter Cable is a name I was familiar with so figured this would be a good one and for sixty bucks, was a no-brainer.
One day I needed to cut some luan and as I didn't have a suitable blade at the time for my circular saw, decided to see what this would do. I clamped my aluminum straightedge down to the workpiece but after about 8", the saw started veering off severely to the right. I stopped my work and clamped the saw guide onto some scrap with the same results on each cut. On closer examination of the saw found that the blade is not aligned with the saw itself. The problem seems to be with the small v-shaped piece of metal inside of the blade holder assembly. It is what locates the back edge of the blade and was not centered. Figuring it to be a defect, I returned the saw to Amazon. I received the 2nd saw, put it up against a straightedge and found it to have the same problem. It doesn't seem that it would be that difficult to ensure this part is properly aligned, so this would appear to just be a QC problem in Porter Cable's Chinese factory. Porter Cable sells a guide which attaches to the base but it would not be usable with this saw.
My only solution seemed to be to spend a lot more money for a Bosch or Makita, which I could not justify, or to keep this one. I decided to keep the PC and just limit it to freehand work. It is great at that. The saw cuts smoothly with the Bosch T234X Progressor Wood Blade (5-Pack) and is very easy to make an accurate cut with. I have used this saw for a few months now and am overall pleased with it. I just need to keep in mind it's limitations. Even the LED light, which I first thought to be just a gimmick, has come in very helpful.
Overall, 4 stars for the saw, but minus 1 star for the blade alignment problem.
