Arived Broken, Hidden defect from factory! Cheep built for the price
By James Dingman
The first thing that I noticed was that the Palmgreen press was very lightweight compared to my other 1 ton arbor presses. Not sure if this is good or bad, depends on the strength of the iron used on these units. We will see how it stands up in the long run.
The first press that I received was cracked in the center of the base both sides of the base. This was a factory defective casting that was "hidden" by paint and passed on to the unsuspecting consumer, me! I did not see the cracks until I mounted the press and big chunks of paint flaked of both sides where the base flexed. Good think I noticed it before I put the press into service or I might have got a facefull of press as it let loose under pressure! Currently waiting for the replacement.
AS to the quality of the unit I was not particularly impressed. I have a couple of other Taiwan and China presses in my shop and overall they are better quality than this Palmgreen and cost almost half as much. My main concern, other than the cracked base, is the lack of gibes for the post. On both of my Oriental units the center drive post rides on brass plates that are loosened and tightened by the set screws in the front plate and the side of the unit. On the Palmgreen the column rides directly on the ends of the set screws which is not a good thing as all the pressure is concentrated on the face of the 1/4 inch screws and will result in rapid wear and grooving on the face of the post! Another quality issue I have with this unit is that the side of the post was never finished after the teeth were cut and there were rough burrs all up and down the post which dragged on the casting. I expect this kind of thing from cheep Taiwan machine work but not a highly touted American Made unit.
Overall, not impressed!

Best 1 ton arbor I've seen
By D. Hauser
Includes three arbor punches/bits where others don't. The ram is counterbored and a magnet glued into the bore to accept and hold the bits. Nice touch. Remember if you make your own punches to not let them bottom out on the magnet, sinceand magnets are brittle.
As arrived, this press came with a wheel handle on it opposite the bar handle. See the 1/2 ton press for a picture. It was an unexpected surprise, but I find I never use that wheel handle.
Overall, a great little press.

An excellent product
By J. Galloway
This arbor press has excellent features and is a quality, built-in-the-USA unit. I especially like the hole in the ram so that tool tips of different shapes can be attached. It uses a magnet to hold them in place. I made my own attachement to use this as a leather stamping press and it works great. I found that if you make your own tool tip that you need to carefully copy the ones provided so that the length of the mounting hole portion does not extend further and come in contact with the magnet. I would recommend this product to anyone.
