Awesome flux core for the price
By Bradley T
Sold my Hobart stickmate recently because it was to many amps to do exhaust work and I kept burning threw the pipe, I was looking for a small machine just for thin stuff and I know northern tool is a good brand as I have delt with them before. As another stated throw out the demo wire it comes with honestly its junk don't waist your time I got a 10lb spool of Hobart .035 flux core and it works flawlessly. 125 amps may not sound like much but let me tell you I burned threw 3/16" plate and it wasn't toped out yet. This welder has some serious kick I'm impressed.
Some info I want to add the ground cable could be better as it doesn't seem to get much bite onto the work piece but its manageable other then that I haven found any flaws.
Tech specs not listed:
This is a AC welder
Ground lead is 7 feet
Work lead is 6 feet
Power cable is 6 feet
It takes .030 and .035 wire by reversing the drive roller
Comes with a total of 3 .030 tips
1lbs of flux core .030 demo wire but don't bother with it
On a note of the power supply yes it takes 125vac house power but if using an extension core make sure it's very nice quality or the machine will draw to much power and "bog" down
Otherwise happy welding to you project workers

It's been a very useful tool.

I didn't buy it from Amazon, but from the HF store locally. I'm writing a review because I absolutely love this thing.
I've never welded anything in my life, but I've always wanted to. Now I look for things to fix, improve or create.
I completely re-worked a 13 year old riding mower, rebuilding the deck with sheet metal from home Depot. Took an almost worthless piece of equipment and with some rust removal and spray paint, I have a fully functional mower. The money I saved by fixing the mower (versus paying $1000 for a new one) will pay for this welder many times over.
I've built a trailer for the mower, replaced the mechanism in an attic door, and many other small projects.
With this welder and a grinder with cut-off wheels, I've gotten a lot done, and learned a bunch.
I think it's perfect for a beginner. If down the road you determine that you need a more professional model, you'll still keep this one handy.
Among the best hundred or so bucks I've ever spent.
A couple of things:
Toss the wire that comes with it, as many others have said. Buy some good wire, such as Lincoln. You WILL see a big improvement, especially in the reduction of spatter created.
The feed tension set-up for the wire is very basic. It can take a little playing around with. I inadvertently over-tightened the wire spool and had some feed problems. I loosened the wing nut, but the problem didn't go away. As it turned out, the rubber spacer that puts pressure on the spool stayed compressed even after loosening the nut. It sort of got caught up on the threads of the rod that it sits on. All I had to do was wiggle the rubber piece, and the problem went away.

Great Welder
By Viffer Rider
im giving this 5 stars since the person buying a $190 welder is probably only using it a few times a year like myself. First thing you must do after purchase is throw away the demo wire that is included in the box. Go to your local Lowe's and pick a small roll of Lincoln .035" flux wire and weld away. I wasn't expecting great results with no gas, but i was floored at how it turned out and how easy it was. A+
