5Cart is way better than expected!
By Fred M3
I recently bought a Hobart/Miller AutoArc 130 Mig welding unit - because I just wanted to learn to weld. I thought I'd fix/build stuff around the house and maybe even do a little metal sculpture/art work in my garage. As my first welding project, I originally planned to fabricate a cart for the welder. After thinking about it I decided that making a cart of angle iron would be over-kill so I decided to reserve my maiden project for something else. To some it might seem like heresy, but I started looking at buying a welding cart pre-built.

I considered several similar designs (3 from Amazon, 1 from Northern Tools, 1 from Harbor Freight). After reading a lot of reviews, I was not expecting much in terms of quality of construction - especially for the cheaper ones. There were complaints of thin/flimsy sheet metal, low-quality fasteners/screws that were inadequate to hold everything together, cheap caster wheels that failed immediately, and narrow shelves, among others. After spending a bunch of time poring over all the reviews, I settled on this Hot Max one - it was a little more expensive but not by much.

I was very surprised when the box arrived - first, it was a lot heaver than I expected. I opened it up and after about 30 minutes of assembly, I had a well-designed and surprisingly heavy-duty cart! The instructions were minimal but were accurate and easy to follow. I was impressed with the connecting bolts and nuts. The nuts were self-contained locking nuts so all I needed was a 10MM socket wrench to turn the bolt. I was able to hold the nut by hand until the locking side engaged and then I could snug them up tightly with the socket wrench. A nice touch was that there were a couple extra nuts/bolts.

My MIG unit fits in the top shelf comfortably and the 40 cu ft shielding gas cylinder has more than enough room on the back shelf designed for it. It probably could hold a substantially larger cylinder.

The cart has a strong handle in front and two substantial hooks on the sides for hanging the welding cables. There is room on the bottom shelf to hold my welding headgear and the lipped middle shelf can safely store all the other supporting stuff like pliers, wire spools, etc.

All in all - I am very impressed with this Hot Max cart. It is a lot sturdier than I expected and it more than ratified my decision to buy instead of build!

5Outstanding!
By Jimmy Z
For such a simple item I would not normally write a review. But the fit, finish, quality and attention to detail, along with a very good price point, make this China item worthy of note. It just proves that sometimes you can get a quality tool at a reasonable price. Note these observations;
1. Heavy gage metal, no burrs, clean and accurately aligned holes punched with precision.
2. The simple black finish thick and very smooth.
3. The 6mm hardware had self locking washer nuts with an anodized finish. Even had a few extras. No self tappers. Very strong when assembled.
4. The wheels and casters, always a very weak point with import tools, work smoothly and look to be made to take some real use.
5. The actual design is very user friendly, angle of the top shelf, the cable hangers, a useful handle and slot hooks for the tank chains show some real forethought.
A good buy.

5Best Cart for the price
By Amazon Customer
Good steel, better than Northern Tool or Harbor Freight carts. Seems to be better quality than the Hobart cart, too, with a better design. Haven't placed my Hobart Handler 140 on it yet, but prior reviews assured me it will fit fine.
Packaging was the worse for shipping, but nothing busted through. Nothing bent. Some paint missing from front, lower corner of bottom tray, but that came from the factory, not a problem with shipping. Just a very small amount, and if you're a welder, you have some black spray paint available.
All holes lined up if you follow the directions that say DON'T TIGHTEN THE SCREWS UNTIL ALL SCREWS ARE IN PLACE.
I'm glad I bought it, and I'd buy it again.
1st addition: Welder fit fine, 80 cf bottle perfect fit, if a little heavier than it says it's designed for, my welder and bottle together do not exceed rated capacity.
2nd addition: I didn't like the way the big bottle rattled around, chains were a little slack. I welded a 7 inch inner diameter octagon out of 1/2 tubing, and drilled 2 1/4-20 screws into the top bottle rack, it keeps the bottle from moving more than 1/4 inch or so when rolling the cart. See my new pictures added here. One more thing, you cannot purchase the materials to build this cart, retail, for the price they sell it for.
3rd addition: The hardware, of which there was some left over, they give you extra, is grade 8 hardware, not "anodized" as another reviewer stated. I'm a fan of grade 8, and replaced the grade 5 that came with my differential covers on my Jeep with grade 8, so this was also a nice feature, one I suspect from the pictures that none of the other carts here include. I also built another octagon "basket" for the bottom of the cylinder, screwed to the bottom of the cart with flat head stainless screws, and now the bottle moves not at all, and the chains are strictly redundancy.
