Dremel MM30-01 Multi-Max is a powerhouse
By AKN
I already own the Porter Cable version of this tool. This one is a bit smaller and lighter and more manuverable in my opinion and yet it is every bit as powerful. The 2.5 amp motor has the same type of small dial on the handle to let you choose the exact speed you need, marked from 1 to 10, although in my case I usually keep it on the most powerful, fast speed.
This unit is about $50 less expensive than the comparable Porter Cable I tried out. The case is also somewhat smaller and lighter.
This comes with an accessory pack which contains a flush cutting blade, a flat saw blade, and a grout removal blade. There is also a sanding attachment with ten pieces of sandpaper in three grades.
What really sets this apart from the comparable Porter Cable, aside from it's relatively lighter weight, is the attached wrench tool. Use this tool to tighten and untighten the attachments. Unlike the Porter Cable, this tool neatly attaches to the handle where it can't get lost.
The other advantage this has over the Porter Cable multi-tool is the well thought out, smaller case. While just as sturdy, it has molded inserts inside to securely hold not only the handle and cord neatly, but also the attachements. These won't be rattling around loose inside the case as they will in the Porter Cable. It's a trim, light very strong case which the tool and attachments fit snugly into beautifully.
Finally, unlike the Porter Cable, other manufacturers attachments will fit onto this so you aren't limited to only Dremel attachments.
I also see that this has some air vents that are well designed to shield the internal motor from flying dust that goes everywhere while working with this, which will help to protect the motor from damage.
The cord is ten feet long, very strong and sturdy, with a big thick plug that will be easy to grip even if you are wearing gloves.
There is even a compartment to hold the instructions and warrenty card, which is for two years parts and labor.
This carries a two year warranty. The company is in the USA, and it is assembled in Mexico.
After using the Porter Cable for a while now, I feel that this Dremel has some definite advantages. I like this better for the reasons mentioned above.

Love it
By Lauri M
The Dremel Multi-Max is great for cutting, sanding, grinding, scraping and grout removal. It comes with 16 pieces all tucked away nicely in a hard storage case.
I will probably get myself into trouble with the Dremel, but a woman needs to take on a few tasks of her own from time to time, like when the man of the house conveniently forgets requests! Everything is easy to use and understand, and for a beginner, I'm proud to say that I have not broken anything, nor have I caused any disasters!
Great product.

Every Handyman Needs One of These
By Stephen Jones
Oscillating tools (or multi-tools) fit in cramped spaces and are perfect for many handyman jobs and remodels. The Dremel Multi-Max MM30 can cut, grind, sand, trim, and more. It has an adjustable speed setting and works well on a variety of surfaces including wood, plastic, and drywall.
My first project was a small crack in my underground sprinkler system. I dug a trench near the leak and needed to replace just a small section of the PVC pipe. Using a jigsaw or reciprocating saw could have been messy and led to further pipe damage. But this tool was perfect. The wood plunge blade sank through through the PVC pipe like a hot knife through butter. I had quick, clean cuts and was replacing the pipe in a matter of minutes.
The Multi-Max boasts 16 pieces, but please note that eleven of these are sanding pads. Other attachments include a rectangular "plunge" blade for wood, a semi-circular blade for wood or drywall, a sanding triangle for tight corners, and a jab saw for drywall. Add-on blades (not included in this set) are available at most home improvement stores and allow you to perform additional tasks such as cutting metal, scraping glue, and removing tile. I did a quick price check, and a metal-cutting carbide blade costs $20. A scraping blade costs $10.
I like the variable speed option, but find myself usually defaulting to the highest speed. The hard plastic case will keep the tool, its cord, and all accessories dust-free and easy to carry. The patented "Quick-Release" tool is basically a socket wrench. It is conveniently located right on the handle of the device, and is very easy to use. I was able to pull it out, replace blades, and replace it all in about 30 seconds.
The Dremel Multi-Max is very comparable to other brands of oscillating tools. But for its size, amperage, and accessories, you will not find a better tool in this price range.
