5Slick little gizmo
By Jawn
I hadn't paid much attention to the oscillating tools like this 'til I received an attachment for one as a gift from my mother (she knew I had a "Dremel", and I'm guessing she assumed all Dremels were the same).

So, when I got a chance I got one of these and tried it out. I had no idea what I was missing. Makes it easier to cut square holes. Like any new type of power tool, it takes a little getting used to the technique. Don't let it sit in one spot, you won't get anywhere. Move the blade back and forth a little like it's a hand-saw and it'll cut better (by clearing the sawdust out of its teeth).

I also expected an oscillating tool like this to shake you to bits, but it doesn't. It's dependent on what attachment you have (larger ones do have some vibration), but most are very smooth.

1Be wary of a sticky power switch - Bad Design? Recall Candidate?
By DoItYourselfer
I have owned Dremel rotary for over 30 years and it still works beautiful today. I guess quality and durability 30 years ago meant something.

I recently had a leak in bathroom shower and purchsed the MM20 and Grout Blades for immediate use to clear the shower and floor tile grout on approximately a 5x10 area. For the first 4 hours, like the other reviews say, was like a hot knife cutting through butter. Then, the unexpected set in. The on/off switch started to get really sticky. It simply refused to turn on or off easily. That is, the switch would not easily slide into the correct position. When you thought it was off, lay it down and poof, it comes back on and starts scratching tiles. Needing to continue the job, I would simply unplug the unit to ensure it was off. After 1 day of the switch issue, I returned the unit to Home Depot where they replaced it. So, back home I go to continue the work. I start using the new unit with new grout blades and was extremely careful to have a vacuum to suck out grout dust in case that was getting into the switch and "gumming" it up. Much to my dismay, after just 1 hour and 15 minutes of intermittent use, the new unit developed switch issues that were twice as bad as the previous unit.

The Dremel Support folks are only available on weekdays and of course, this was a weekend, not to mention a holiday weekend so there was not the possiblity to contact them for recommendations.

So, if you are looking for a "reliable" tool that will allow you to complete a job without having to make multiple trips to the hardware store, I recommend a brand other than Dremel as the quality was simply not there. Note that I also thought about the MM40 but the design of the power switch is identical to that of the MM20 and did not want to chance it.

I was given this as gift for when i work on my boat.. it turns out that it first use was taking up old vinyl floor tile and lynolium in my daughters new (old) nyc coop apt we were expecting a long hard few days of heating, scraping slow horror. I thought this might be a good way to test it out so ibought the rigid scraper attachment and got towork it was like aknife through butter
After a half hr, i ran down tothe hardware store and picked up another. We did 400 sq ft in 6 hrs. I love this thing. Im planning on doing projects ive avoided but with the variuos attahments will be no brainers..
