hard working tools

I am a D.I.Y. guy and got this combo kit for christmas. This kit cost $250. It replaced a set of 18 volt skil tools. The skil tools served their purpose but after a few years the batterys would'nt hold a decent charge and the trigger fell off the drill. It was time for an upgrade. Even though this dewalt kit is their older stuff it still blows away the cheaper brands. I've done a few projects around the house with them. I really like the impact driver, it drives screws into about anything with ease. It's also pretty though I dropped it off a ten foot ladder onto a concrete floor and it did'nt even phase it. One note though you will want to buy a set of impact bits to go with it. I was using a regular phillips head bit and when a screw bit into some really hard wood I broke a brand new bit. The recipacating saw seems pretty good have'nt had any trouble out of it yet. I have barely used the drill, I'm always reaching for the impact. With that in mind I kind of wish this kit had the hammer drill instead of the regular one. I think the dc435 kit is the same as this one except has the hammer dril drill. So if you find a good deal on that kit it's something to think about. The light is handy but I think I will be getting a brighter replacement bulb, the stock one is just average. This kit includes the old NiCd batterys and they are smaller ones not the XRPs, but with two batteries and just me using them I never find myself without a working battery. Eventually I will probably upgrade to the litium ion battery since they are compatible with these tools. A nice selling point I think. If you can get this kit at a good price I would definetly recomend these tools as a starter kit and adding to them as you find deals on tools.

Great set but battery not compatible with other sets

this set is great but the battery is not compatible with the many other sets (i thought it was) so if you are going to buy more tools like a circular saw, electric wrench, jigsaw, or a hammer drill this set is a bad purchase just because the battery wont be compatible. if none of the tools i listed are needed This set is definitely a 5. dewalt is top quality at the best price in my opinion.
