Best Price - Blazer CG-001 Butane Refillable Cigar Torch Lighter, Blaze Orange

Product Description

The Blazer CG-001 refillable butane lighter has a piezoelectric ignition system to apply direct heat to an object, and can be used to light pipes, cigars, and cigarettes. The lighter houses a piezoelectric ignition system, which is based on a pressurized molecular reaction, and requires no electric connection. Piezoelectric energy occurs when the trigger is activated, releasing a small, spring-loaded internal hammer that strikes a crystal, producing a spark and resulting in gas flame ignition. A window enables users to determine the amount of fuel remaining. The blue-torch flame is wind-resistant to provide precise control in outdoor or rugged conditions. The fuel-adjustment dial at the base of the lighter controls the flame length. The lighter weighs 1.3 oz.

Blazer Products manufactures handheld butane micro torches, lighters, and ultrasonic cleaners. The company, founded in 1985, is headquartered in Farmingdale, NY.

5Outstanding out of the box
By Laplace Transform
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1FYQ2FLS96RB8 I read every review of this and several other torch/jet lighters before deciding to buy this one. I got the black Blazer CG-001. Purchased and fulfilled through Amazon, delivered 2nd day. Well packaged and it came in a small box with brief instructions. I'm not a junkie but I have a couple nice Zippo lighters, I'm a fan of large wooden matches for my cigars and pipes, and I do like the survival/utility aspect of a torch lighter. I've owned some really junk torch lighters in the past that didn't last, fell apart, etc, and this is the first "real" one I've bought.

So the most important thing!!! I took it out of the box, filled it from a new bottle of Colibri butane and IMMEDIATELY tried to strike it. FLAME! Sharp and crisp and strong. Tried to strike it again, same thing. About twenty strikes later, I had no failures and no hiccups. I ran it for a good five or six seconds, let it go out, and then re-struck, fired right up. It was working perfectly. Over the next few days I used it randomly, as a cigarette smoker might. Again, worked perfectly.

It's only been a few days but so far the CG-001 has worked flawlessly for me, and still has at least 60% of the charge it had to begin with. I've lit several cigars and a tobacco pipe and it did a great job. The flame itself is sharp and hot and easily controlled.

Downside, the flow control doesn't do much. The difference between full throttle and drawn down is very minimal, although there is some difference visually. I put it at the lowest setting and will likely just leave it there.

There hasn't been much wind here, so I held it near my car window while driving. It isn't windproof, but it will light in a fairly stout breeze. If you can shield it from gusting wind, you should be able to get a flame. And unlike a Zippo, it is either lit or it isn't, there's no half-way where there's a flickering flame down at the bottom of the wick inside the wind guard. The torch is either blazin' or it isn't.

That's the extent of my review and experience at this point. I don't understand how people make a comment "it looked smaller/bigger in the photo.." The photo is against a white background with no reference for size, and the dimensions are listed in the product description. Read the specs. Also, it is unfortunate that so many people had negative experiences with this lighter. Perhaps they just got unlucky with a lemon or a damaged product that would have been replaced by the manufacturer if they approached it properly. Fact is if you want 100% quality control on any item, you pay a premium for it, and from my experience (for example with some very high-end custom pistols) that still isn't a guarantee of absolute perfection. Expectations have to align with the product and its price point. Then again, maybe some of the negative reviewers used the wrong type or inferior fuel; only one or two of them actually said what they used. Honestly, from the way the reviews read I suspect in many cases it was simply a case of operator error. If all else fails, read the instructions!

--Update 1--

After about a week I have no complaints. With daily use (and a lot of test firings) I am still on the initial charge of butane. I have used it to light cigarillos, full-size cigars, friends' cigarettes, and a pipe. I have used it to finish off the ends of paracord and to start a fire pit. No failures to report. No leaks. The cap fits tight and stays closed with minimal play in the hinge.

I will continue to update this review to report how the CG-001 is performing.

--Update 2--

Three weeks and I am on my 2nd charge of butane. Lighter is flawless, fires first time every time. Strong flame with no fade and no leaking fluid. I have let it sit for a few days and it fires right up. I have used it more often than "normal" use, striking repeatedly, and it has not failed to light once. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to somebody looking for a portable, durable, precise flame.

--Update 3--

Nearly three months of steady use and the lighter remains flawless. No more updates will be coming unless I experience a problem.

1Useless crap
By P. Bridgers
I had a Blazer PB207 that I used for about 5 years to light cigars. It was the best lighter I've ever had. I bought two of these, intending to use one as a gift. Neither works, They spark, but go out immediately. And it's considered hazardous, so Amazon won't let me return it. Brilliant. $65 down the drain on useless crap.

2Big Let Down
By Daniel
Purchased this product looking for a quality windproof lighter. Worked great for about 2 months, now I have to keep pushing the igniter to try and get a flame.......
