I bought this because I needed a low torque, light weight, ergonomic power screwdriver and this is the best I have found to date. Dewalt has become very good at designing tools that feel good in your hand and this is no exception. Because you can rotate this from pistol grip to in-line, you can get comfortable in almost any application.
The gyroscopic function is great. It takes about 30 seconds to get used to. You no longer need to remember which way the switch goes to tighten or loosen the fastener. A turn of the wrist controls both direction an speed. The trigger only turns the power on or off. Nothing moves until you turn your wrist. To stop, just let go of the trigger. You can turn your wrist back towards your start position to slow down or even to stop, but if you go past the start position, the chuck will start turning in the opposite direction. So the easiest and quickest way to stop is to let go of the trigger.
The 15 clutch positions give you good control on the lower end to this tool's torque range. The Max setting seems to be a big jump in torque over the highest setting, but this is not a powerful tool, this is a finesse tool. This is a replacement for a manual screwdriver or ratcheting screwdriver. I useually drive the fastener down to contact, release the trigger, and manually give the tool approximately 1/8 of a turn. That works great for me. I can also manually break a tight fastener loose, press the trigger, turn my wrist and remove the fastener. The LED lights can come in handy at times.
The 1/4" hex drop in chuck works very well. I have used a 1/4" hex to 1/2" drive socket adapter without any problems and 1/4" hex bits are held securely. I don't know what this tool can do with wood screws, but is does exactly what I bought it for and better than I thought it would.

This is different from your standard drill/screwdriver. With those guys, you push the switch and it turns. Push it harder and it spins faster. Do that with this and it just vibrates. Twist your wrist a bit and it starts to turn. Twist it farther and it spins faster. Bring it back to neutral and it slows and stops. Twist the other way and it'll spin in the other direction.
There's plenty of torque for most household tasks. I drove half a dozen 3" #14 wood screws into pre-drilled holes without it lagging (much). It's perfect if you need to screw or unscrew a switch faceplate. The adjustable clutch prevents you from overdriving screws and stripping out holes.
What don't I like? Well, with a traditional driver/drill, if I want to snug down a screw, I just tap the trigger. I'll often set the clutch fairly loose, drive in a bunch of screws, and then go back and tighten up everything with the clutch set much tighter. You can't do that with this tool. You push the button and nothing happens. You have to twist it slightly to get it to spin, but you can't turn it when the bit is stuck in an already tightened down screw...you might as well be using a manual screwdriver at that point. Likewise, once it starts it turning, you can't untwist your wrist into a more relaxed position or it stops. If you let off the trigger to stop it, your wrist is already twisted...you have to remember to keep the power engaged and turn your wrist back to neutral when you do want to stop it. If you don't go back to a neutral position, you have to twist your wrist even farther to get it going again. That's uncomfortable.
So, as I said in the headline, this takes a bit to get used to. It's great for anything that can be tightened in one fell swoop. It's not if you want to snug up an almost tightened screw or bolt. It's comfortable to hold and the way the handle adjusts from straight to right-angle is cool. I'd give it a solid five stars if there was a way to disable the gyroscopic function and just use it as a plain old electric screwdriver. With it though, I'm only giving it three.

Received this DeWalt 4 days ago and have already found it to be a asset.
I've used this motion driver for tightening the many nuts/screws on our cedar deck furniture,
replaced a Larson storm door, (complete trim, hydraulics & strike plate - new screw pattern - in hard wood),
screwed down popped up deck boards, plus various small this & that.
The driver did all projects with ease - from 1/2" nuts - 1" & 1 1/2" door screws - & #6 x 2" deck screws.
With power to spare, the driver had no problem sinking #8 x 2 1/2" phillips screw in a treated 4" x 4" post
but found it's limit at #10 x 3" phillips in same post - which stopped at 1 1/2".
At this point the driver wasn't powerful enough to reverse and un-screw the screw.
But when the trigger is pressed the bit (chuck) stays solid in position, so if one turns their wrist a little
the screw is broken loose, & the driver finishes backing the screw out.
DRILL ~ Motion activated. There's no forward/reverse switch.
Whichever way ones wrist is turned controls the direction and speed. It's fundamental and simple.
Maximum torque tightly holds the clutch for fastening flush/sinking. There are 15 clutch positions.
LED LIGHTS ~ Come on when trigger is pressed and go off 20 seconds after it's released.
This desirable & useful feature is beneficial in numerous ways. (driving - flashlight - finding items)
HANDLE ~ Pivoting - Pistol position 7" front to back, handle 5" - straight handle 9 3/4".
For convenience the handle can be un-locked from either side, only one side is required to un-lock.
From pistol position (push either button) & turn counter clockwise.
From straight position (push either button) & turn handle clock wise
CHUCK ~ When pulled forward, the chuck ejects the bit in ones hand, you don't need to pull on the bit.
All standard 1/4" hex bits / hex sockets fit perfectly as do 'finder driver extensions' for hard to reach areas.
A 1/4" hex adapter for 1/4" & 1/2" sockets adds to this drivers worthiness, and it's power doesn't disappoint.
Bit clip snaps on top of driver and holds 2 bits.
BATTERIES ~ The two 8 volt batteries are much more powerful than I expected and last a good amount of time.
The driver has a battery status indicator showing the amount of charge in 3 portions
which is on whenever the trigger is pressed. The battery clip is extremely easy to press & remove.
CHARGER ~ Said to be a one hour charge but containing 1/3rd charge the batteries were fully charged in 32 minutes each.
CASE ~ Two strap - zippered - 9" x 11" and 8" tall - roomy - canvas case. It has a fairly stiff bottom,
and the top opens nearly as big as it's bottom, but closes in a triangle.
CONCLUSION ~ This driver is a premium choice that gets through small jobs quicker than using a hand screwdriver,
and it's small size and weight (one lb) is more convenient than 18 & 20 volt impactors.
