I am about as far removed from the likes of Bob Vila, Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, or Ty Pennington as one can get, which is hard to admit as a guy. My knowledge of carpentry, mechanics and general how-to is less than remedial. Just look behind any hanging picture frame in my house, and you'll discover an average of 13 holes where I attempted to place the screw, before finally settling on one of appropriate height. My wife never lets me hear the end of it.
That said, the B&D Max Gyro is so simple to use, that I have become a master craftsman, and am now checking every loose screw in the house just so I can feel superior with my new found skills. The Max Gyro is a deceptively simple power screwdriver that sort of reminds me of a Nintendo Wii controller: grasp the handle, smile when the headlight pops on, rotate your wrist to the right, and the screwdriver begins to ... well, screw. The further to the right you rotate your wrist, the faster the motor goes. To unscrew, simply perform the opposite action. Stand back. Admire handy work.
The 4 Volt rechargeable battery is surprisingly strong and long-lasting, but the great thing is it can be charged while being used -- assuming you're working near a power source. Now, it isn't as powerful as, say, a screw gun, but the Max Gyro will handle pretty much any simple job around the house with ease.
Included with this bad boy are two screw bits: the standard flat head, and Philips slot head. Would have been cool if the heads were in a one-piece design, each on opposite ends, as I have a tendency to lose small objects, but I'll make do with what I have.
Overall, I highly recommend this for both the seasoned pro, adding a second addition to the house, or the schmo, like myself, who can barely assemble an Ikea bookshelf. The only downside is the price, which seems a little high, hence, the 4 stars. But the Max Gyro definitely makes for a nice gift, so it is well worth checking into!

As soon as I saw this I knew I had to have it. It is compact, reads your mind as to which direction it needs to go and has an auto on light. The oversight is that there is no place to store the second screwdriver bit. How often have you needed a phillips instead of the flat bit in the driver. It would have been so easy to add storage for one bit. It also needs a loop of some sort to hang it from your workbench.
I taped the second bit on to the screwdriver body, but that's a temp fix at best. Let me know if you have a better idea. This tool is the type you would keep in the house, away from your other tools, and bits.

Pro:
The Gyro fits perfectly in my hands.
Can easily control the speed of the driver depending on how fast you twist/jerk your hands.
Illuminating light is a great plus especially in tight obscure spaces.
Torque is not too bad.
Con:
Can use a faster motor. But for the simple work application, this is just perfect.
I love this gadget. It's both a toy and a tool!!
